A daily excursion to one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage sites, Gjirokastra. The spirit of the “city of stone” has inspired many authors and gives the feeling of being back centuries ago during the Ottoman Empire.
Hotel pick-up and drive to the Gjirokastra, one of the rarest example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of large estate. The city is overlooked by its famous castle and was the birthplace of the former Albanian communist leader Enver Hoxha, but as well the author Ismail Kadare. Many houses in Gjirokastra have a distinctive local style that gave to the city the nickname of “City of Stone”, as most of the old houses have roofs covered with flat dressed stones.
